The people who founded and run Music Shakers include: Marcella Erskine, Director and Founder, obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College where she specialized in group and community work. She trained in dance at Colorado State University while obtaining a B Sc in Psychology, and has sung in choirs in Denver, where she grew up. Marcella taught music at Denver Cooperative Preschool, and has provided music workshops across Birmingham. She participated in early childhood music workshops including Music Leader’s Musicality Matters and the Early Ears 4 program. Most importantly, however, she has learned the pleasure of making music first hand from her parents who always sang and enjoyed music, and from her own children’s joy of making music. Marcella can be reached at m.erskine at musicshakers.com or 0121 449 5120. Michael Overduin is a Professor at the University of Birmingham, and a father of three budding musicians. He is a member of the Resonance Project, which was established by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and was funded by the Wellcome Trust and Locate in Birmingham to use research into magnetic resonance to inspire young musicians and composers of contemporary music. Michael is developing Science Capital to inspire and accelerate innovation by linking science, the arts and business. We thank the many dedicated parents, musical experts and professional advisors who continue to help guide the growth of the organization. |
